From the Desk of Bjorn Kinding, Headmaster                                   March 12, 2011

Greetings from the Staff of College Harrington du Canada,

You wouldn’t think that spring is around the corner, if you were visiting or living in Oka, this week. The largest snowstorm of the winter arrived on Wednesday evening dumping more than 30 centimeters of snow overnight. Temperatures warmed up quickly and by noon, the snow had turned to rain. The warm temperatures and the drenching rain slowly began the daunting task of grinding away the drifts of snow. The only reliable sign of spring, in this still very white winter landscape, is the official change to daylight saving time, which will take place this Sunday, at 0200hr. All clocks will go forward and our students will lose one hour of sleep this Sunday morning!

The Centre of Excellence in Boisbriand is boiling with energy these days. The newly formed training groups are preparing themselves for the spring AAA tournaments, as the Midget AA and the College AAA teams continue their fine tuning for the playoffs. A handful of regular season games still remain, and then Coach Daoust and Coach Lecompte will have their tournament teams ready.

Friday evening our College Ice Bergs played an outstanding game, posting an impressive 8-6 win over St-Laurent.

Another College AAA home game is scheduled for Sunday, so let’s all meet up, pack the stands, and support the team.

Back on campus, the students are reaping the benefits of our new housekeeping staff. Recently we added one part-time housekeeper to look after the student rooms.  It is important to know, that the new staff will not take over the responsibilities of each student to maintain and clean their own room, however the new housekeeper will certainly be a great asset to refresh and sanitize the rooms on a regular basis.

Please encourage your son to finish the “spring cleaning” of his room and dorm, before the April break! The spring break is also a good time to bring home all no longer needed items. When the spring break ends, winter clothing should no longer be necessary, I hope…

Thank you to our HCC Chef, Mr. Hosein, for preparing the great food every day and for keeping students informed through his “Menu at a Glance” email. The student input has been greatly appreciated and has been an asset for Mr. Hosein to select healthy and well-tasting meals and snacks.

Spring break is quickly approaching. The break will begin on April 8th and classes will resume on April 26th. Please note that Monday, April 4 through Thursday, April 7, is an exam week and the coaches are also conducting on and off-ice tests that week. In addition, the college team plays their last play-off game on Sunday, April 10, so all College AAA players (including call-ups) cannot travel before, Monday, April 11.

Coach Daoust is busy planning the Spring AAA Tournaments and so far the schedule includes:
